Course description

In this course, you will consider the common barriers faced by learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) when learning computing, and ways to address these barriers.

You will explore several general teaching approaches, as well as activities and techniques specific to computing, that will help to include and engage all learners.

This course will help educators who want to create a more inclusive computing learning environment for all of their learners.

What you will learn

After completing these two modules, you will be able to:

  • Describe the common barriers faced by learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in the computing classroom

  • Select and use suitable teaching approaches to make lessons more inclusive for learners with SEND

  • Identify ways to adapt and improve teaching materials to make them more accessible

  • Apply effective approaches to teach programming to learners with SEND

  • Identify accessible programming environments and physical computing devices that can be used to make lessons more inclusive for learners with SEND

  • Create or adapt a computing lesson plan and materials to make them fully inclusive
